SBA's District Office Selects Haitian-American Harold Charles as Small Business Person of the Year representing the State of Maryland

Harold Charles, CEEPCO Contracting PresidentWASHINGTON, DC – On May 15, 2014, CEEPCO President Harold Charles was selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration's Washington Metropolitan Area District Office (WMADO) as the 2014 Small Business Person of the Year representing the state of Maryland. He was presented with the award during a ceremony to commemorate Small Business Week at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC.

Mr. Charles is the first Haitian-American to receive this award. "It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration's Washington Metropolitan Area District Office as the Small Business Person of the Year for Maryland," Mr. Charles said. "This award is the result of a lot of hard work and the commitment of our awesome team of professionals at CEEPCO."

CEEPCO is a leader in innovation infrastructure. Over the last decade, the company has helped to create strong local communities and accelerate business and job growth by providing cutting edge engineering, construction, transportation and operations and maintenance services. CEEPCO was established in the US in 2003, and started working in Haiti in 2009 before the earthquake to give back to the community.

Six months ago, CEEPCO received the 2013 Maryland Excellence Award amongst all its peers and competitors from the Small Business Institute for Excellence in Commerce (SBIEC). The SBIEC conducts business surveys and industry research each year to identify companies that have achieved demonstrable success in their local business environment and industry category.

Charles was also honored in December 2013 as Digicel's Entrepreneur of the Year in the Construction sector in Haiti. Digicel, the largest telecommunications company in Haiti, hosts the competition annually to promote small business development in the country.
